Chaffey College Officially Reopens Aquatic Center

The splash of water and big smiles filled Chaffey College’s Aquatic Center on March 20 as community and campus leaders gathered to celebrate the completion of the center’s $14.2 million renovation project.
After five years of anticipation, Chaffey’s swim team - wearing red team uniforms, goggles and caps - took a dive off the platforms for an inaugural lap in the crystal blue water.
“I know that excitement doesn’t even begin to describe how our aquatic athletes feel about diving into their new home,” said Chaffey College Governing Board President Deana Olivares-Lambert. “In addition to being a home for our athletes, this center represents a place where our community can come together for swim lessons for children, and families can experience campus life.”
The project, funded by taxpayers through the $700 million Measure P bond, began in spring 2023 and was completed in January. It is the first Measure P project to be completed. Chaffey’s swim teams held their first meet in the facility Feb. 28.
Chaffey College Superintendent/President Henry D. Shannon spoke of the historic journey Chaffey College has had since it moved from its first location in Ontario to Haven Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga.
“We moved here in 1960 and look how we’ve grown. Today you are part of Chaffey history,” said Chaffey College Superintendent/President Henry D. Shannon. “Years from now, they’ll see your pictures as part of Chaffey lore.”
The upgraded facility includes a new 400-seat bleachers section with a shade canopy, a renovated pool and deck and two new buildings that include meeting and office spaces.
The facility will host athletic events for the college’s four swim and water polo teams. Community events, including the summer swim program, are expected to return in summer 2026.
“Today is a reminder that when we support public education, we are building futures brick by brick, and pool by pool,” said Chaffey College Student Government President/Trustee Corah Miller. “To everyone who made this possible, members of the Governing Board, administration, faculty and staff – thank you. And to my fellow students, enjoy the space because it was meant for you.”
