Chaffey College Associate Superintendent of Business Services and Economic  Development Lisa Bailey will serve as acting superintendent/president through the end of 2024, the Chaffey Governing Board voted Thursday.

Superintendent/President Henry D. Shannon went on leave earlier this month following a medical procedure and plans to return by January or earlier, on the advice of his doctor.

“We extend heartfelt wishes for a quick and full recovery for Dr. Henry Shannon, and feel confident he will return to campus ready to retake the helm at Chaffey College,” said Chaffey College Governing Board President Deana Olivares-Lambert. “The district remains committed to maintaining the high standards of excellence at Chaffey, and we know we are in good hands with Lisa Bailey as acting superintendent/president.”

The district’s board policy 2432 allows the Chaffey Governing Board to appoint an acting superintendent/president for periods exceeding 30 days.

Bailey has served in her role as associate superintendent since 2013. She provides oversight to business and budgeting services, human resources, economic development, and information technology. She has been a manager at Chaffey for more than 20 years. Bailey will continue serving her normal role in addition to the duties of the superintendent/president.

“I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to help lead and maintain Dr. Henry Shannon’s vision for Chaffey College this semester,” said Bailey. “I look forward to working with our executive team, faculty, and staff to ensure student success remains a top priority during this time.”

Shannon came to Chaffey in 2007, bringing more than four decades of experience as a higher education leader. Under his leadership, the college has experienced consistent growth in graduating classes, earned a Top 10 spot in the Aspen Institute’s best community colleges in the nation, and earned millions in grant funding among other achievements.
