DPS Testing Policies
In-Person Testing Policy
Scheduling and Hours of Operation:
- All tests must begin and finish within DPS hours of operation for testing: Monday and Thursday, 7:45 AM to 7:00 PM, and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM.
- Students must submit a DPS Test Appointment Request Form at least 5 business days before the test date. This does not include the weekend.
- When filling out the form, it is the student’s responsibility to be clear on the date, time and title of the exam and check the course syllabus for accuracy.
- After submitting the request, students will receive a confirmation email with details on their test location and where to meet the proctor on one of Chaffey College’s campuses.
On-Time Arrival:
- Students must be on time for their in-person test appointment. If a student is more than 15 minutes late, they are considered a no-show, and DPS will need the instructor’s approval to either start the test late or reschedule it.
- Rescheduled exams require at least 48 hours' notice from the student to DPS staff.
Testing Environment:
- Students are required to store all personal items and digital devices, such as smartwatches and cellphones in a designated area or locker prior to the start of the exam.
- Students must notify DPS staff before taking any approved breaks during the exam.
- During testing, students should not converse with anyone except DPS staff.
- Students may not access any of their person items during an exam, unless a student with approved breaks needs to retrieve a snack or drink from their backpack. Students can retrieve the item to enjoy during their break ONLY with the supervision of DPS staff.
- No food is allowed in the testing room.
- Students with approved DPS breaks must stay in the immediate area of the test room and may NOT use their cell phones, go to their cars, “go for a walk” or go to buy snacks, etc. during a break.
- If a student takes more than 10 minutes for their breaks or for bathroom use, they may compromise the exam process, and the exam could possibly be stopped and referred to the instructor for next steps.
- Water is permitted in the testing room, and snacks may be accessed during approved breaks.
- Students are responsible for bringing all necessary testing materials (e.g., pencils, scantrons). If the test is online and requires login credentials, students must bring their login information.
Attendants and Test Environment:
- If a student is approved for a non-DPS attendant, the attendant and any family members or friends are not permitted in the testing room.
- Noise cancellation headphones or disposable earplugs are available upon request for students needing a quieter testing environment.
Cancellations and Communication:
- If a student has questions or needs to cancel an exam, they should call 909-652-6379 or email dps.staff@chaffey.edu.
- In certain cases, DPS may need additional information regarding the exam or accommodation. Students are expected to respond to DPS inquiries within 48 hours. Failure to communicate may result in the cancellation or non-booking of a test appointment.
Online Testing Policy (Fully online Exams)
Students receiving accommodations for online exams are required to:
- Contact their instructor at least 3 business days prior to the test.
- Ensure they have all necessary equipment, such as a working computer, stable internet connection, and any assistive technology required for the exam.
- Communicate with their instructor and DPS regarding any potential issues or accommodations needed during the online testing process.
If there are questions or concerns about the accommodations or the online testing process, students should contact DPS at 909-652-6379 or email dps.staff@chaffey.edu.
