Physical Therapy Assistant Pre-requisites

Yearly modifications can be made to program requirements. Students that maintain continuous enrollment at Chaffey College may use the requirements at the time of their enrollment. Please meet with a Chaffey College Counselor for more information.

The PTA program prerequisites are listed below. Students that are deemed eligible to apply will be placed in one of the following tiered categories. Applications will then be randomly selected for acceptance into the PTA program. Please use the PTA program prerequisites Advising Check Sheet located below and/or meet with a Chaffey College Counselor to create a student educational plan.

Tier 1: BIOL 20 Human Anatomy and BIOL 22 Human Physiology or equivalents are completed with a 3.0 GPA or higher within the past 10 years recency, and the additional program prerequisites are completed with a minimum of a 2.8 GPA.

Tier 2: BIOL 20 Human Anatomy and BIOL 22 Human Physiology or equivalents are completed with a 2.0 GPA or higher within the past 10 years recency, and the additional program prerequisites are completed with a minimum of a 2.8 GPA.

Tier 3: BIOL 20 Human Anatomy and BIOL 22 Human Physiology or equivalents are completed with a 2.0 GPA or higher within the past 10 years recency, and the additional program prerequisites are completed with a minimum 2.8 GPA with some coursework in-progress at the time of application.

Recency requirement: BIOL 20 Human Anatomy and BIOL 22 Human Physiology must be completed within 10 years of the application period. Download the PTA program prerequisite advising check sheet below for more information.

Online Science Labs: Biology science online courses and labs will be accepted.

PTA Pre-requisite Advising:

Use the PTA Program Pre-requisite Advising Check Sheet in consultation with a Chaffey College Counselor.

Meet with a Chaffey College Counselor for assistance:

Arrange an appointment with a Counselor to review your external transcripts, assist you with creating and staying on track with your Educational Plan, and/or assist with preparing for your PTA program application. You may visit the Chaffey College, Academic and Career Counseling Department website to arrange your appointment.

Public Notification of Accreditation

Graduation from a physical therapist assistant education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), 3030 Potomac Ave., Suite 100, Alexandria, Virginia 22305-3085; phone; 703-706-3245; accreditation@apta.org is necessary for eligibility to sit for the licensure examination, which is required in all states.

Candidate for Accreditation is an accreditation status of affiliation with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates the program may matriculate students in technical/professional courses. Achievement of Candidate for Accreditation status does not assure that the program will be granted Initial Accreditation.
