Confidentiality Statement
Students meeting with the Social Wellness and Behavioral Support (SWBS) team have the right to confidentiality. All information discussed during therapeutic sessions will remain private and will not be released or discussed with anyone, including faculty and staff, without the students’ verbal and written permission. However, the law requires us to disclose information under certain conditions, such as:
- Any reasonable suspicion of child abuse including sexual exploitation as defined by AB1775, or abuse to a dependent or elder adult
- When the student shares any direct or indirect threat of bodily injury to another person
- When either the student or one of the student’s family members informs us that they are at risk of doing serious harm to themselves or another (including any within the Chaffey College community)
- When disclosure is required pursuant according to a legal proceeding
Furthermore, we use an interdisciplinary team approach as a service delivery system. We have marriage and family therapy, professional clinical counseling, and social work interns that are here to serve you. Because they are in training, they may discuss your case with their designated clinical supervisor during a case conference in order to plan for safety.
