Air Quality Monitoring
September 9, 2024
Dear Campus Community,
I hope this message finds you well and safe. I want to provide some guidance from the Office of Safety and Risk Management regarding the current air quality due to the current fire activity. Keeping the campus community safe is one of our most important priorities. The most recent update from the Air Quality Management District (AQMD) shows our air quality as “unhealthy”, and requires that we move all outdoor activities indoor. Adjustments have been made to comply with Cal OSHA guidelines and ensure all work functions and student learning is moved indoors until further notice.
The District’s business operations are unaffected, except where modifications have been made as noted above. Please limit all unnecessary outdoor activity.
Should staff desire increased protection, Risk Management has a supply of N95’s which reduce 95 % of the particulate matter in the air. They may also reduce the smoke smell/odor in the air. Should you desire to obtain one please fill out the attached “form for voluntary respirator use” for wearing an N-95 and contact Risk Management.
Risk Management recommends the following precautions:
- Athletics, Campus Police, and Maintenance and Operations: Indoor activities (in accordance with Cal Osha Guidelines Title 8 Section 5141.1 Protection from Wildfire Smoke).
- Employees with sensitivity to particulate matter:
- Please know that you are able to use sick time should you be negatively impacted by the current air conditions. Please follow the established practices for notifying your supervisor.
- N-95’s are available in the Risk Management office located in the Student Services/Administration building in room 202.
- Buildings and Indoor offices: Keep doors closed as much as possible.
Your cooperation and commitment to these practices are crucial in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for everyone. We appreciate your efforts and dedication to our community's well-being.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me (ext. 6550 or julie.leggin@chaffey.edu) or Nicole Leonard (ext. 6523 or nicole.leonard@chaffey.edu) if you have any questions or need further information.
Thank you,
Julie Leggin
