Wild Fire Smoke Advisory
September 12, 2024
Dear Chaffey Community,
I hope this message finds you well and safe during California’s difficult fire season. I want to provide some guidance from the Office of Safety and Risk Management. The most recent update for AQMD shows our air quality has declined. This requires the campus to keep activities for students and staff indoors.
Please understand that Chaffey is continuing business operations as usual, except where modifications have been made to M&O, Athletics, and Police for indoor work, to the extent possible.
Should staff desire increased protection Risk Management has a supply of N95’s which reduce 95 % of the particulate matter in the air. They may also reduce the smoke smell/odor in the air. Should you desire to obtain one please read and sign the attached “voluntary use form” for wearing an N-95.
Risk Management recommends following precautions:
- Athletics, Police, and Maintenance and Operations: Activities scaled back to indoor activities (to the extent possible).
- Employees with sensitivity to particulate matter:
- Please know that you are able to use sick time should you be negatively impacted by the current conditions. Please follow Chaffey practices and notify your supervisor.
- N-95’s are available in the Risk Management offices, next to Human Resources
- Buildings and Indoor offices: keep doors closed as much as possible
Please know Risk Management is monitoring the air quality frequently during the day and may issue a notification of any changes in air quality. Your cooperation and commitment to these practices are crucial in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for everyone at Chaffey Community College. We appreciate your efforts and dedication to our community's well-being.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me (ext. 6550 or julie.leggin@chaffey.edu) or Nicole Leonard (ext. 6523 or nicole.leonard@chaffey.edu) if you have any questions or need further information.
Thank you,
Julie Leggin
