Reflections on September 11th, 2001

September 11, 2023

Dear Campus Community,

On this day 22 years ago, our country lost nearly 3,000 lives in the worst terrorist attack our nation has ever experienced. September 11th, 2001 may seem like a very distant memory for many of us. A large number of our students were not even born yet when it occurred. But the lasting effects of this tragedy continue to be felt.

New York has lost 43 firefighters this year alone from 9/11-related illnesses. Just last week, two victims of the attack were identified through DNA testing, finally bringing some closure to their loved ones.

We remember this event not only to honor the victims and their families, but to also remember how we as a nation can come together in solidarity and compassion, and stand unified against hate.

Please take a moment today to reflect on how this tragedy has affected your life, and consider ways you can give back to your communities to ensure a brighter future for yourself and future generations.

Sincerely,
