President Board Report

ACTING SUPERINTENDENT/PRESIDENT’S BOARD REPORT
President Olivares-Lambert, Board Members, and Community Members:
It’s been a busy September punctuated by a visit from Senator Rubio to the Chino Campus
hosted by President Olivares-Lambert and Board member Negrete-McLeod, and organized
by Dr. Janeth Rodriguez. Some progress points: I greatly appreciated the time and
opportunity to work with the nursing faculty led by Jennifer Renteria, Lisa Doget,
and Nicole Tierney, as well as with Dean Eric Sorenson. Their excellent preparation
and devotion to student work at CIM is inspirational. The Executive Team enjoyed a
wonderful meeting hosted by Faculty Success Center Facilitator and professional development
leaders Tamari Jenkins, Vicky Valle, and Andrew Long where we were introduced to the
spring 2025 convocation speaker. We are continuing to identify and explore with CCFA
longer-term solutions for our dual enrollment pilot. Tailgate was last Saturday, and
our Chaffey College football team solidly beat Santa Monica with a final score of
54-7. Over the past two days, we have enjoyed enlightening moments with our Juneteenth
muralist, Sam Dunson, and are looking forward to his installation in the LLC. Our
team at InTech is preparing for another action-packed Manufacturing Day on October
4, where approximately 600 high school students will be introduced to the world of
advanced manufacturing, robotics, and welding. Evening classes are climbing with 246
sections, and they are complemented with Munch and Mingle Nights for our students.
As of first census, enrollment is up by approximately 6%. At the moment, we are on
track to surpass our pre-pandemic fall enrollment numbers. To celebrate our collective
work on enrollment efforts, the College will be hosting an ice cream social on Wednesday,
October 9th at all college sites.
Since my last report I’ve received a broad range of feedback regarding the college’s commitment to consultation and communication. As a follow up to my prior report, regarding effective consultation, the Executive Team members and Academic Senate leadership have met twice engaging in candid discussions. From those meetings, we have committed to a joint training session with ASCCC, bi-monthly Academic Issues Group meetings during the fall semester to discuss this work, and have begun to clarify processes for effective participation. In the interest of transparency and accurate communication, minutes will be posted on the Share Point Minutes section so that all have access to information. Likewise, members of the Executive Team have also met twice with the Classified Senate and also with student leaders. These are important conversations that must be built on common understandings and commitment to communication despite periods of tension.
One very important collaboration this fall is the UndocuFellowship. Work is under way to assist the College in advancing the Board's prioritized support of our undocumented students. With the Board's leadership we have worked to establish a fellowship program that ensures that this population also receives equitable access to explore their career interests and aspirations.
At Chaffey, we know firsthand that it is not enough to say that we stand in solidarity with historically marginalized groups of individuals. And it is not enough to simply open the door to opportunity. We need to continue to take steps to effectuate change and to ensure that every opportunity is real and meaningful, for every member of our community.
Chaffey is well known for our care for students. In all the years I have been at the College, students have always been our North Star. They are the reason we are here; this is something we feel and share among all generations of employees. I am confident that we will remain committed to accelerate opportunities and outcomes, and that we will remain committed to address inequities, wherever they exist.
