Mourning lives lost in the Middle East, making space for dialogue
October 9, 2023
Dear Campus Community,
This weekend, we learned that the terrorist organization Hamas orchestrated deadly attacks on Israel – an incident that continues to unfold. More than 1,000 lives – including both Israeli and Palestinian– have been lost and thousands more injured.
We wish to convey our condolences to our students, faculty and staff who are Jewish, Muslim or Palestinian, or have any other connection to the victims of this tragedy. Chaffey College stands united against violence, and strives for peace among all ethnic and cultural communities, as well as communities of faith.
The Center for Culture and Social Justice will be hosting an open space for dialogue via Zoom on Tuesday, October 10 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. Dr. Jennifer Henry, director of social wellness and behavioral support, will facilitate the session, which is open to all students, faculty and staff.
Should any of our students require counseling related to this or any other incident, please visit our mental health services page for resources.
Sincerely,
Henry D. Shannon, Ph.D.
Superintendent/President
