Interim Assoc. Superintendent of Instruction and Institutional Effectiveness Position Update
May 2, 2024
On behalf of the Executive Team, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Michael L. McClellan has been selected to serve as Interim Associate Superintendent of Instruction and Institutional Effectiveness. Pending Governing Board approval, this position would start on July 1, 2024.
Michael began his tenure at Chaffey College in 2018 serving as Student Services and Instructional Dean. Within this capacity, Michael played a key leadership role supervising multiple areas within Instruction and Student Services, including Instructional Support, Guided Pathways, Counseling, Student Government, Student Support Services, Kinesiology, Nutrition and Athletics.
An advocate for student success and DEIA-focused programs, Michael has been instrumental in launching new instructional and support technology geared toward advancing equity and access for all students. In addition, he has been integral to the college’s implementation of the ACC Program Maps and Success Coaching Model while simultaneously streamlining student support processes via automated and online modalities.
Within his current role as Dean for Academic and Career Counseling, Michael has helped lead the development of a new student support team model, leveraging both staff and technology to increase the college’s capacity to support student success. A collaborator, Michael also integrated counseling with Instructional academic and career communities to foster relationships among faculty for a more enriching student experience.
Prior to Chaffey College, Michael served 17 years as tenured faculty at Pasadena City College where he taught Guidance courses and Kinesiology and Health classes. He has also taught at the graduate level at four-year universities.
We are excited to welcome Michael McClellan to this new leadership role at Chaffey College. During the next couple of months, Michael will work closely with Misty Burruel to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities leading up to July 1.
As part of this transition, Human Resources will begin an internal recruitment for
Dean of Academic and Career Counseling shortly. Please join me in congratulating
Michael.
Sincerely,
Henry D. Shannon, Ph.D.
